Goal IV: Theory and Praxis

Students have a critical grounding in theoretical perspectives that draw on research in LIS as well as other fields of knowledge, that inform their professional practices including research, organization, management, and access to information.

IV.a. Students will describe applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in library and information science.

Understanding how to complete social science research is important as an information science professional in order to grow and advance in the field. Focusing on continuing scholarship is key in order to contribute and expand scholarly conversation and research into the evolution of information and library services.

For our final assignment we had to create a research proposal. This research proposal is assessing whether or not our selected libraries would consider abandoning the Dewey Decimal System. It evaluated case studies about other libraries that moved away from the Dewey Decimal System.
