Organization of Knowledge I

Goal III: Knowledge Presentation

Students are proficient in the theory and application of skills essential for knowledge representation in evolving technology environments, in any chosen area of specialization.

II.a. Students analyze, organize and describe various formats of information objects.

These assignments illustrated the principles of organization in Organization of Knowledge I.

Artifact #1

Dublin Core Record

I had created a DC record for our textbook and described how the definitions and comments for each metadata element guided me in creating this metadata record using a metadata generator provided.

Artifact #2

Controlled Vocabularies

For this assignment I had to describe the FAST and LSCH subject headings for our textbook and discuss the differences and similarities between FAST and LCSH based on the reading using online authorized headings.

Artifact #3

II.b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.

I created a mini online catalog using LibraryThing.com. I imported metadata from a website and manually created a metadata record and tags. At the end of my presentation, I discussed why LibraryThing was considered a social cataloging website and concluded it with my closing observations. This assignment illustrated my knowledge representation and my ability to use different technologies.
